NTC - The Nuremberg Code, as well as U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations, prohibit testing drugs on humans until they've been tested using animals as models. This animal testing is essential to develop new treatments for MS. The laws such as The Nuremberg Code are crucial to ensuring the safety of humans in the process of testing on animals. Currently, there are about 350 research projects supported by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. While many of these projects use tissue cultures to gather information, animals are used as well. Rodents with similar disease to MS are used. Just like regulations keeping humans safe during this process, the Society also requires justification for the humane use of a laboratory animals. Government mandated Animal Care Committees monitor the humane use of animals compliance with federal, sate, and local regulations.
